Days of Remembrance
Remembering the Victims of the Holocaust at the Capitol
On Tuesday, April 25, 2017, soldiers filed into the Capitol Rotunda bearing the flags of each of the Army divisions that liberated the concentration camps of Nazi Germany during the U.S. Holocaust Museum Days of Remembrance Ceremony. The annual ceremony takes place in the Capitol to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust.
President Donald J. Trump spoke at the event, thanking American veterans who liberated survivors from concentration camps. "Your sacrifice helped save freedom for the entire world."
Speakers at the ceremony memorialized the late author, Nobel Laureate, and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel who passed away in July 2016. "He lived through an endless nightmare of murder and death," said President Trump. "And he inscribed on our collective conscious the duty we have to remember that long dark night so as never to again repeat it."
